Duchess of Hamilton Streamlined Coronation class No 46229
Built at Crewe Rail Works in 1938, the Duchess of Hamilton was an express locomotive for the modern. The Streamlining process required heavy sheet steel casing to be fitted over the boiler, creating the distinctive bullet shape.
In 1946, her streamlined casing was removed to improve maintenance, which was restored 60 years later with support from Friends of the National Salt Museum.
